Casey Powell and Matt Vinc helped lead the Orlando Titans to the East Division regular season with a franchise-best 11-5 record, and last week were named the National Lacrosse League’s 2010 Most Valuable Player and Goaltender of the Year, respectively.
Six games into the NBA postseason and the Orlando Magic look utterly unstoppable. The Bobcats couldn’t stand in their way as they lost four-straight in Round 1. Now the Atlanta Hawks are down 2-0 in a best-of-seven series resuming Saturday.
The first season in Orlando for the Titans has been met with big numbers in the stands and even bigger numbers on the field. The Eastern Division Champions finished with an 11-5 record and now host the Boston Blazers on Saturday at Amway Arena.
And with the 41st overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select… Torell Troup. The nose tackle became the second-highest UCF draft pick all-time and first player taken from Conference USA on Friday with the ninth pick in the second round.
As expected, fans were taken aback by Monday’s news out of UCF. Following three seasons of mediocrity on the basketball court, the University of Central Florida has ended its 17-year relationship with beloved head coach Kirk Speraw.
Following last week’s 12-5 win at Colorado, Vinc was named National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week as he made 47 saves on 52 shot attempts in the win. The Titans improved to 3-1 on the year as Vinc is clearly a major player in the team’s success.
It’s been a week since the UCF men’s basketball team last took the court, when they came away with a 67-56 win on the road. The effort broke a three-game losing streak and credited Kirk Speraw with win No. 275 as head coach of the Knights.
It’s being billed as the best recruiting class in program history. With 23 signees from three states among the 2010 recruiting class, the UCF football program is hoping this crop of student-athletes raises the bar for years to come.
