Sophomore Darnell Sweeney made up for an error that allowed No. 4 Florida to break a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning on Tuesday by lining a two-out, two-run double to center to give UCF a 4-3 win in Gainesville.

Brian Adkins tossed three scoreless innings of relief and Joe Rogers pitched a perfect ninth to deliver a 5-4 victory on the road against No. 23 Rice on Sunday as the Knights won the series over the Owls.

UCF junior Jackie Coward was named the 2011 Conference USA Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Year by league coaches, becoming the first Knight in program history to earn the award.

Its second Conference USA title in three years has afforded the UCF women’s basketball team a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. The Knights face Ohio State on Saturday.

The UCF men’s basketball season came to an end Wednesday as the Knights lost to East Carolina 75-60 in the opening round of the C-USA Championship after struggling in the second half.

Like last spring’s championships that saw UCF come from behind to earn the program’s first-ever C-USA outdoor title, the team jumped the rest of the competition Saturday to earn its first indoor title.

Year three of the Terry Rooney era gets underway this weekend as the UCF baseball team hosts Siena at Jay Bergman Field. UCF finished out 2010 with its most wins since 2005, going 33-22 overall.
