Despite a 3-1 loss to East Carolina in the Conference USA Championship game in Houston on Saturday, the UCF softball team earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The UCF Knights last played in the postseason back in 2008.

UCF’s softball program recently said farewell to five seniors at the UCF Softball Complex on Senior Day, where they took two of three games from Tulsa before going on to complete their home slate with a 3-0 win over Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Since taking down No. 9 Alabama the UCF Knights softball team has gone 18-9 over the past month and now find themselves sitting atop the Conference USA standings. At 10-4 in C-USA play the Knights are in for quite a test the rest of the way.

On the final day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic at South Commons Stadium and Complex in Columbus, Ga., the UCF softball team scored a 3-2 upset over No. 9 Alabama. This weekend the Knights host the six-team UCF Tournament through Sunday.

One big step forward and a couple steps back sums up opening weekend for the UCF softball team. At the NTC Elite Invitational the Knights beat No. 16 Tennessee before dropping games against No. 7 Georgia and Chattanooga.
