The girls soccer season for Winter Park’s Trinity Prep squad came to an abrupt end Thursday in the Class 2A state title game at Pepin Stadium in Tampa. The Saints lost 4-1 to American Heritage.

On Friday, Trinity Prep’s girls soccer team earned a spot in the state semifinals for the first time in program history with a 2-1 win over St. Johns Country Day. Four local teams are still alive.

Trinity Prep junior Collin Engelhardt says he lives for moments such as these. Last week Engelhardt won a single-hole playoff against AJ Crouch of Jacksonville Bolles to come away as the Class 1A champion.

It’s no easy task to repeat as state champion. Ken Vinal warned his Trinity Prep boys cross country team of that during a preseason camp in 2008. That year they came off a Class 1A title, but eventually went on to finish as state runners-up.
