Top Area Prep Football Teams Enter Postseason

The high school football regular season is officially in the books and the chase is on for teams wishing to become one of the last still standing in the state finals. Overall winners will be crowned in Orlando.



Four teams feature local players at World Series

Later this week the College World Series begins, on Saturday, June 19. And while area teams such as UCF and Stetson will not be taking part, it doesn’t mean Central Florida players have been left out. Florida and Florida State have a combined eight locals on baseball rosters.

The talk all week in the world of high school football was the five-overtime thriller at Bill Spoone Stadium as Apopka escaped Dr. Phillips with a 58-52 win in the Class 6A regional semifinals last Friday night.



Dr. Phillips crush defending 6A hoops state champs

Dr. Phillips opened the new season with a dominating 77-45 win over defending Class 6A state champion Miami Coral Reef at the inaugural Hoops Mountain Hoops Feast last Saturday at West Orange High School.

Each week Orlando Sports Central posts its list of top performers with ties to the Central Florida area. This week the standout efforts being recognized come from a high school football running back, women’s soccer striker, semi-pro quarterback, professional placekicker, and women’s tennis player.



DP’s Dee Hart goes for 244 yards in big district win

Dr. Phillips running back Dee Hart did something Friday night against Boone that he hadn’t been able to do through the first four games of the season. His 244 yards rushing and four touchdowns, on just 13 carries, were 11 more yards and one more score than he opened the year with for the mighty Panthers.



Games starting to count for area football teams

Call it the Clash of the District 4 Titans. That’s essentially what next week’s meeting between Timber Creek and Winter Park will be at Showalter Field on Friday, Oct. 9. The winner of that game is likely to wrap up the four-team Class 6A-4 title, leaving the loser to fend off University (2-2) and Colonial (0-4) later in the season for a spot in the playoffs.
