Once the high school track season comes to a close, Boone’s Marvin Bracy will be competing against some of the country’s best in the Dream 100 race at the adidas Grand Prix on June 11 in New York City.

Austin Rivers ended his high school basketball career at Winter Park as a two-time Class 6A state champion on Saturday in Lakeland following a rematch of last year’s finale against Shane Larkin and Dr. Phillips.

Taryn Griffey hit a free throw with 24 seconds left in overtime to help Dr. Phillips claim the Class 6A girls basketball state title on Saturday with a 58-57 win over Lake Mary at the Lakeland Center.

The girls basketball teams at Lake Mary and Dr. Phillips are each just one win away from a potential clash in the Class 6A state finals this weekend in Lakeland. Port Orange Atlantic and Leesburg also still alive.

At 12-4 overall it appears the Dr. Phillips has hardly lost a step since finishing state runners-up a season ago. That experience from last year has DP poised to take on all comers this time around.

The 30th Annual Great Florida Shootout will be held Dec. 27-30 at Osceola Heritage Park’s Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee. The four-day tournament features 16 teams from across the nation.

Dr. Phillips suffered its first loss of the season 42-27 against Miami Central in the Class 6A state final on Saturday night at Florida Citrus Bowl. The Panthers finished No. 2 in the state and 14-1 overall.

It will take some time before the boys cross country team at Dr. Phillips High School is able to put behind them the way their season came to a close as runners-up at states. Bridget Blake won the girls title.
